Monica Hassall – “Explosive Behaviors, Executive functions and the ADHD Volcano”
- They used the Volcano to understand negative explosive behaviors
Drivers of the explosion:
- Lack of Inhibition
- Emotional Regulation - alert only, bad way to process detail, step down when you need to think. Used to access motivation
- How you direct your attention.
- Working Memory. 1) Information management, making, recalling and holding memory 2) Sense of Time, where you are and the future 3) Verbal memory. How to get things done, and how to calm down with self talk
They used an acronym, the COOL tool to help stay on track to calmness:
- Calm and center your thoughts (inhibition)
- Observe and Assess what is going on
- Organize a way forward and plan (working memory)
- Lead by example, keep cool, avoid being part of the heat and drama
